Mike, of Bridgeport, OH, reached out to Home Environment Solutions in hopes of reducing energy costs for his home. Our home energy expert, Russ, performed an audit of Mike's home and found solutions to his heating and cooling woes. Our team of service technicians removed and disposed of the existing insulation to prepare the space for the installation of clean insulation. The team then installed baffles along the perimeter and air sealed with Zypfoam along the top seal and as needed to the exterior walls. OSB boards and Zypfoam were also installed on the soffits above the kitchen. The chimney was wrapped with RockWool and metal flashing and Fire Caulk was installed to air seal around the unit. SilverGlo 4" and OSB boards were used to construct the SuperPlatform Catwalk and vertical dams for blown-in TruSoft Cellulose insulation. All of this was capped off by installing a new scuttle cover, which was air sealed and insulated with 4" SilverGlo insulation boards, weather stripping, and Zypfoam. The customer was left with a much more efficient and comfortable home that cost less to heat in the winters and cool in the summers.

Josh reached out because his home had high energy bills, drafty rooms, and noticeable hot and cold temperature swings upstairs. The basement was also damp and drafty, which was contributing to condensation and affecting comfort throughout the home.

Our team focused on strengthening the home’s thermal boundary from top to bottom. We sealed and insulated the attic to reduce heat loss, upgraded insulation levels, sealed attic penetrations and top plates, and insulated the attic access opening.

In the basement, we insulated and air sealed the rim joists to stop cold air infiltration and reduce moisture-related issues that were causing condensation. By addressing both the attic and basement, we tightened the entire building envelope.

With these improvements complete, the home now has more consistent temperatures upstairs, fewer drafts, improved basement comfort, and better overall energy efficiency.

Sarah reached out because her single-story home had high energy bills and rooms that became uncomfortably hot during the summer months. Even though there weren’t obvious drafts, it was clear that heat was building up in the attic and transferring into the living space.

Our team focused on tightening the attic and improving the home’s overall thermal performance. We sealed and insulated the attic, improved and insulated the attic access opening, sealed top plates to stop conditioned air from escaping, and insulated the basement rim joists to reduce additional air leakage.

With these improvements in place, the home now stays more comfortable during the summer, hot rooms are reduced, and energy usage has improved. Sarah’s home performs more efficiently year-round with lower overall energy loss.

Josh reached out because two bedrooms in his home were significantly colder than the rest of the house. While most of the attic had around 20 inches of insulation, those specific areas had little to none, creating a major imbalance.

This is something we see often. Even when most of an attic is insulated well, missing coverage in just a few areas can cause certain rooms to feel completely different from the rest of the home.

After evaluating the attic, we confirmed that those cold rooms were directly tied to the lack of insulation above them, along with air leakage that was allowing heat to escape. Our team focused on correcting the imbalance and rebuilding those problem areas the right way.

We sealed attic air leaks, sealed top plates and penetrations, addressed chimney-related leakage, and installed insulation dams to ensure proper containment. Then we installed insulation to proper levels in the affected areas so the entire attic system could perform consistently.

By bringing those under-insulated areas up to the same standard as the rest of the attic, we were able to eliminate the weak spots in the system. Now those colder rooms are much more consistent with the rest of the home, drafts have been reduced, and overall comfort has improved.

Ryker reached out because his older single-story home had cold floors and higher energy bills, even after installing a new furnace. With very little insulation in the walls or attic, the heating system was working harder than it should, and comfort just wasn’t where it needed to be.

Our team sealed and insulated the attic, tightened up air leaks throughout the attic floor, and insulated the attic access. By reducing heat loss and improving the home’s thermal envelope, we helped the new furnace operate more efficiently and deliver heat where it belongs.

Now, Ryker’s home is noticeably more comfortable, floors feel warmer, and energy costs are lower. The furnace is finally able to perform to its full potential, making the home more efficient and comfortable overall.
