Bruce called the Home Environment Solutions team for help insulating the attic in his home.   Russ came out to the house and did an energy audit and evaluation.   

The HES team arrived and got to work removing the old insulation that was not longer efficient.   They began air sealing the attic  and installed recessed light covers to stop warm air from escaping the living space.  The next step was to air seal the rim joist in the basement  and out the CleanSpace encapsulation system in with the TerraBlock floor insulation.   

By dealing with the loss of warm air in the attic and the entry of cold air from the basement Bruce's home will stay more comfortable and have lower energy bills all year long.   

Julie reached out after discovering contaminated insulation caused by rodent droppings. Even when it’s out of sight, rodent contamination can impact indoor air quality and create long-term concerns if not handled properly.

Our team carefully removed the affected insulation and sanitized the impacted areas. After disinfecting the space, we replaced the insulation and spray-foamed the rim joists to properly seal the area and prevent future air leakage. This not only restored a clean environment but also improved the home’s overall energy performance.

With the contaminated materials removed and the rim joists properly sealed, the area is now clean, disinfected, and better insulated. Julie’s home now benefits from improved air quality and a tighter building envelope.

When we evaluated the home, we focused on one of the most common sources of these comfort problems: uncontrolled air movement between the living space and attic.

Small gaps and openings throughout the attic floor can allow conditioned air to escape into the attic. Top plates, penetrations, and even the attic access itself can become significant air leakage points. When that happens, the heating and cooling system has to work harder, and the rooms directly below the attic are often the first to feel the effects.

Our team addressed the problem by completing a comprehensive attic air sealing process. Attic hatches and access openings are frequently overlooked, but without proper sealing and insulation, they can create a significant break in the home's thermal boundary.

By stopping these hidden air leaks, we created a tighter separation between the living space and attic. This helps keep conditioned air inside the home where it belongs, reduces drafts, and allows the home's existing insulation and HVAC system to perform more effectively.
