Homeowner Noah wanted to make his home more comfortable year-round and reduce high energy bills. Our inspection showed that much of the home’s heat loss was occurring through the attic due to air leaks and insufficient insulation.
To address these issues, our crew sealed air and heat leakage through the kitchen soffit with an airtight cap and Zypfoam and prepared the metal chimney for insulation. We then installed a layer of 4” SilverGlo insulation across the attic deck and covered it with ⅜” board to create a continuous thermal barrier. TruSoft Cellulose insulation was then blown-in the vertical dams.
These improvements help reduce heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer, resulting in a more energy-efficient home with consistent temperatures throughout the year. The homeowner can now expect lower utility bills and greater comfort in every season.
Ned reached out looking to replace old attic insulation, improve comfort, and address rodent contamination. His home had cold floors, high energy bills, and uneven temperatures upstairs. Clear signs that the attic wasn’t performing the way it should.
When we evaluated the space, we found contaminated insulation, poor access, and an attic system that needed to be rebuilt, not just topped off.
Our team started by removing the old, compromised insulation and properly disinfecting the attic to eliminate contamination. From there, we focused on building a system that would perform long-term. We sealed attic air leaks, sealed top plates, installed insulation dams, and improved attic accessibility so the entire space could be properly treated and maintained. We also insulated the attic access and created safer, more usable pathways within the attic.
For insulation, we installed TruSoft cellulose, which not only improves thermal performance but also helps deter pests and resist mold growth. something that was especially important for this home.
This wasn’t just an insulation upgrade; it was a full attic reset. Now the attic is clean, accessible, and properly insulated. The home holds temperature more consistently, cold floors have improved, and the entire system runs much more efficiently.
Not the pink stuff again! This customer in Burgettstown, PA was experiencing home discomfort. The upstairs of their fairly new home was hot in the summer. The air-conditioner ran continuously but just couldn't keep up! HES wasn't surprised to find the "pink stuff" in the attic. It is common for even new home builders to use this inferior insulation. Fiberglass bats don't seal wall and ceiling spaces very tight which causes air leaks. And "air leaks" are what cost you the home owner $$$.
First we romoved his fiberglass bats, and vacumed all the dirt and dust out of the attic. Next the most important part we Air Sealed all the pentration points. And last we covered his attic floor with a warm blanket of TrueSoft Cellulose Insulation.
The results speak for themselves.
Black mold was growing in the attic due poor ventilation with high humidity levels.
Donna from Burgettstown Pa called Home Environment Solutions saying she thinks she has mold growth in her crawlspace. We sent our expert Russell out to inspect the microbial growth. Russell found microbial growth in her crawlspace. Our crew first removed and disposed of all the old contaminated insulation, air scrubber used a substrate cleaner to remove all organic contamination.
